A new building for Ysgol Y Garnedd – Bangor.

Case Study

In the autumn of 2020, the newly constructed Ysgol Y Garnedd in Bangor opened its doors for the first time, welcoming pupils and staff into its modern educational environment. Throughout the building process, Parry Joinery played a vital role in manufacturing bespoke joinery items that contributed to the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the school. These included Safehinge doors with anti-finger trap hinge systems, frames, screens (including glass screens), architrave, skirting, and a custom sliding hatch.

The doors at Ysgol Y Garnedd were manufactured using FSC-certified Halspan and Blankfort solid cores, renowned for their strength and durability. These cores were then faced with MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) and accented with hardwood lipped edging, resulting in a visually pleasing and robust finish. To prioritize safety, all glazed doors were fitted with long vision panels. These panels were carefully cut, beaded, and glazed with laminated safety glass, ensuring both transparency and security.

Door frames and side screens were manufactured using FSC-certified 5th Redwood softwood, adhering to the rigorous standards required for Safehinge certification. Parry Joinery ensured that these frames and screens were fully assembled and primed with a base coat of white primer, providing a solid foundation for further finishing touches and contributing to the overall aesthetics of the school.

Architraves and skirtings, essential for creating a polished look in the interior spaces, crafted using FSC-certified MDF. This choice of material reflects a commitment to sustainability while offering a versatile and smooth surface, ready for painting or staining.

Furthermore, a bespoke sliding hatch was created by Parry Joinery for Ysgol Y Garnedd. This hatch was manufactured using certified 5th Redwood softwood and Sapele hardwood, combining durability and visual appeal. The sliding hatch was complemented by a sliding screen fitted with an aluminum sliding track system and glass, ensuring easy and seamless operation while maintaining visual connectivity within the school.
